Alice Da Cunha Felix
Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother
LOWELL - Alice Da Cunha Felix, 87 of Chapel Street, Lowell, passed away at home on Sunday, August 22, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Graciosa, Azores on April 26, 1923, daughter of the late Antonio Augusto Lobão and Luzia Da Conceição Lobão. She was the beloved wife of Manuel Felix with whom she celebrated 64 years of marriage this past February.
She came to the United States in 1963 to give her family a better life. Alice worked at Grace Shoe in Lowell for over 20 years. She was very active in the community and always willing to help when called upon. She was a communicant of St Anthony’s Church, a lifetime member of the Holy Ghost Society, and a longtime member of the Holy Rosary Sodality of St. Anthony’s. She loved to cook and spend time with her family. She was happiest when her house was filled with her children and grandchildren. She also loved organizing family outings and picnics to LaSalette Shrine.
In addition to her devoted husband, Manuel, she is survived by five children, Deidamia Bettencourt and her husband, Florentino, of Lowell, Antonio Felix and his wife, Mary, of Dracut, Rui Felix and his wife, Darlene, of Lowell, Cecilia Sequeira and her husband, Jose, of Lowell , and Norberto Felix and his wife, Katia, of Tewksbury; fourteen grandchildren, Roy Felix Jr., Lisa Hodgson, Maria Alice Vitorino, Lorrie Chiappetta, Heidi Hall, Steven Bettencourt, Derek Felix, Jeff Sequeira, Amy Hughes, Brian Felix, Tanya Felix, Kyle Felix, Mathew Lemos, and Lukas Lemos.
She is also survived by two sisters, Hilda Sousa, and Noemia Santos and her husband, Carlos, brothers-in-law, Arlindo Melo of Graciosa and John Branco of Lowell; 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Deidamia Sousa, Maria Dias, Hermina Lima, Irene Leandro, Libia Melo, and Manuel Lobão and sister-in-law of the late Flesimina Lobão, Casmiro Sousa, José Dias, Ivo Lima, Frank Leandro, Aristides Sousa, Maria Branco, Ilda and Manuel Machado of Graciosa.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses at Saints Memorial Medical Center and the hospice nurses of Merrimack Valley Hospice for their outstanding care and support.
YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY. ON THURSDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
