Alex C. Kurpes
LOWELL Alex C. Kurpes, 80, of Lowell, died suddenly, Sunday, February 12, 2012, of cardiac arrest with his beloved wife, Pamela, by his side. They would have celebrated their Twenty Six Wedding Anniversary this year.
A son of the late Charles and the late Mary (Charles) Kurpes, he was born October 17, 1931, and graduated from Swampscott High School.
In his youth, he was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn, and had played semi-professional baseball for four years while living in Kentucky. He had also previously lived in Florida.
Mr. Kurpes enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as playing golf, watching sports on television, and was an avid fan of the New England Patriots, the Boston Red Sox, and the Boston Bruins.
He worked for twenty years with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Recreational Manager, maintaining parks, beaches, and skating rinks throughout the North Shore.
In addition to his wife, Pamela, he is survived by his children, Deborah J. Bevilacqua and her husband, Jack, of Gloucester, Alan Kurpes of Gloucester, Andrew Kurpes and his wife, Pamela, of Milton, Charles Blaisdell and his wife, Rebecca, of Palm Harbor, FL, and Gayle Smith of Hyannis; several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was also the father of the late Alexander C. ‘Butchie’ Kurpes, and brother of the late Polly Bulpett.
