Aida Augusta Santos
LOWELL Aida Augusta (Bettencourt) Santos, 94, of Lowell, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Northwood Rehabilitation & Health Care Center after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Domingos Santos who died in 1999 after Fifty Three years of Marriage.
A daughter of the late Francisco Espinola and the late Deolinda (Bettencourt) Espinola, she was born March 24, 1922, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal where she was raised and educated and where she raised family until coming to the United States in 1966. She settled in Lowell’s Back Central Street neighborhood and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. She had worked as an assembler for Carol Shoe until her retirement in 1983.
Aida loved her family and especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved gardening and was a Life Member of the Holy Ghost Society.
She is survived by her children, Manuel Santos and his wife, Lourdes, of Toronto, Canada, Gabriel Santos and his wife, Maria Amelia, of Tewksbury, and Maria Melo and her husband, Joao, of Gustine, CA; her grandchildren, Nancy Paoli and her husband, Stefano, of Montreal, Canada and Diane Reis and her husband, Jeorge, of Toronto, Canada, Danny Santos and his wife, Melissa, of Salem, NH, and Jason Santos and his fiancee, Mary Anne Hurhula, of Arlington; her great grandchildren, Branden Paoli, Matthew Paoli, Tiago Reis, Philip Reis, and Andrew Reis, and Sophia Santos, Avery Santos, and Jacob Santos; and many nieces and nephews in the United States, Canada, as well as Graciosa.
She was predeceased by her brothers Serafim, Marcelino, and Ariolindo Espinola and her sister, Alzira Conde.
Aida’s family would like to thank everyone at Northwood Rehabilitation & Health Care Center for the kindness and compassion they showed toward Aida during her stay their, especially her roomate Elnora Ramos.

HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL ST., LOWELL AT 10 A.M.. BURIAL IN ST. MARY CEMETERY.
