Mario L. Barroso retired From Joan Fabrics LOWELL Mario L. Barroso, 70, of Lowell, died Dec. 17, at Massachusetts General Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Maria A. (Rodrigues) Barroso, with whom he celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary. A son of the late Venancio and the late Rita B. (Lucas) Barroso, he was born June 6, 1937, in Covilha, Portugal, where he was educated and was a member of the Portuguese Army. He worked in the textile industry until he came to the U.S. in 1975. The next year, he moved his Family to the U. S. making his home in Lowell. Mr. Barroso worked for Joan Fabrics in the textile industry for 24 years before his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, and a member of the Portuguese American Civic League and the Portuguese American Center. He was also a member of the Holy Trinity Society, and was soccer fan and supporter of the Sporting Team. His favorite past time was enjoying the company of his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Maria, he is survived by a daughter, Lucilia M. Silva and her husband, Carlos, of Lowell; a son, George M. Barroso and his wife, Lori, of Derry, NH; two grandchildren, Alexander Silva and Tristan Silva both of Lowell; a sister, Orlanda M. Barroso Sardinha and her husband, Manuel, of Portugal; six nieces and nephews, Angelina Barroso Sardinha of Switzerland, Orlando, Celia, Rui and Cristina Barroso Sardinha all of Teixoso, Portugal, and Luis Miguel Morais of Odivelas, Portugal. He was also the uncle of the late Antonio Fernando Morais.

AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL (978 OR 800) 458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY'S CHURCH AT 10 A.M. BURIAL IN ST. MARY CEMETERY.
