Verginie (Poshoghlian) Benlian

 

LOWELL        Verginie (Poshoghlian) Benlian, passed away at the age of 88, on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was the widow of the late Stephan Benlian who passed away in 2002.

    She was born in Aleppo, Syria on January 1, 1930 and was a daughter of the late Tavit Poshoghlian and the late Khatoun (Kouyoumdjian) Poshoghlian. Her parents were both survivors of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, in Turkey. Verginie was raised in Syria where she was educated before later finishing high school in Lebanon.

    In the late 1970’s, Virginie and her husband, Stephan, and their two children, immigrated to the United States, residing in Lowell, and joining their son Michael and daughter, Susan. Verginie loved spending time with her family and was often helping at her husbands tailoring shop, Steve’s Tailor Shop.

    For the past 35 years she resided in Chelmsford and was a member of Saints Vartanantz Armenian Church.

    Verginie is survived by her children, Michael, Susan, Ardemis; along with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her son, the late Katchik ‘Chris’ Benlian who died in 1996. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews of her late special brother, Nishan and his wife, Elmast, and their children, Murad, Rosa and Tavid and the late sister, Hayguhie, and her family, all in California.

    ON TUESDAY, JULY 3 YOU ARE INVITED TO HER FUNERAL SERVICE AT 10 A.M. AT SAINTS VARTANANTZ ARMENIAN CHURCH, 180 OLD WESTFORD ROAD, CHELMSFORD, MA. A PROCESSION WILL FOLLOW FOR BURIAL AT WESTLAWN II CEMETERY IN LOWELL.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, DONATIONS MAY BE MADE TO SAINTS VARTANANTZ ARMENIAN CHURCH.
