Valdemira Estrela Moniz

LEOMINSTER        Valdemira Estrela (Alves) Moniz, 73 of Leominster, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Radius Northwood Nursing Home.  She was the beloved wife of Antonio De Moniz with whom she shared the last 53 years of marriage.


She was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal on February 26, 1947 and was a daughter of the late Jose Alves and the late Maria (Silva) Alves. She was raised and educated in Sao Miguel before coming to the United States in 1976 to raise her family.  She settled in Lowell's Back Central Street neighborhood where she made her home for many years before residing in Leominster.


Valdemira loved to cook and was a very giving and generous woman.  She was known in the area for her Portuguese sweet bread, which she would routinely donate to the Lowell Police Department.  She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and was employed part time in the electronics industry.


In addition to her loving husband, Antonio of Leominster, she is survived by her children, Victor M. Moniz and his wife, Laurie of Leominster, Paulo J. Moniz of Tewksbury, Eusebio A. Moniz and his wife, Brandi of Hudson, NH, and Christina Moniz of Leominster; her seven grandchildren, Brittany, Cody, Kyle, Emily, Brandon, Andrew, and Drea; her sisters and brothers; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also the grandmother of the late Angela Pacheco who passed away in 2019.

FROM 9-11 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.

HER FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD MONDAY AT 11:30 AT ST. JOSEPH CEMETERY, 95 RIVERNECK RD, CHELMSFORD MA.  MEMORIALS IN HER NAME TO THE TRIBUTE PROGRAM, ST. JUDE CHILDREN'S  RESEARCH HOSPITAL, P.O. BOX 1000, DEPT 142, MEMPHIS, TN 38101-9908.
