Maria A. da Silva

LOWELL Maria A. da Silva, 92 of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 with her daughter by her side. She was the widow of the late Manuel A. da Silva, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage before he passed away in 2014.

Maria was born on August 21, 1927 in Faial, Azores, Portugal and was a daughter of the late Teodmiro Floria and the late Ana (Cunha) Floria. She was raised in the Azores, where she was educated and worked as a seamstress in Faial after she completed schooling. She then met Manuel and in 1953, she followed him to Mozambique, where he was stationed in the military. They lived in Mozambique until 1971 when they relocated to the United States to raise their family, settling in Lowell.

Once in Lowell, she was a communicant of St. Anthony Church and worked at Carol Shoe for many years before they ceased operations. She then worked at Wang Laboratories until her retirement in the early 1990’s.

She is survived by two children, Maria Silva of Lowell and Rui Silva and his wife, Billee of Florida; two grandsons, Ryan Silva of Florida and Marco Rocha and his wife Roseanne, of California.

Maria was also the grandmother of late Paulo Rocha who passed away in 2003; and was the last surviving sibling of 5 children. The family would like to thank Merrimack Valley Hospice for their kindness and compassion during Maria's final days.
