Manuel C. ‘Buzina’ Silva
LOWELL Manuel C. ‘Buzina’ Silva, 90, of Lowell, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He was the husband of the late Crisolinda (Ataide) Silva who died October 5, 2004.
A son of the late Joao and the late Caterina T. (Silva) DaSilva, he was born October 18, 1926, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal and was raised and educated there. He was a farmer raising cattle and growing corn and grapes from which he made wine. He was the local lumber supplier in that area.
In 1969, he moved to the United States settling in Lowell where he worked three jobs in order to support his family in Graciosa until he was able to bring his entire family to Lowell in 1971. He worked for the Merrivale Casket Company in Nashua for many years later working for Vertapile in Leominster until his retirement.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and a member of the Holy Ghost Society and the Portuguese American Center. He had a passion for the Blues Soccer Team. In addition to time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, he enjoyed gardening, making wine, cultivating fruit trees and roses, and was a welcome sight walking through Belvidere for three to four miles each week.
He is survived by his sons, Alberto Silva and his wife, Susan, of Hudson, NH, and Alvaro Silva of Lowell; his grandchildren, George M. Silva, Matthew B. Silva of Tyngsboro, and Amanda N. Silva and Natalia L. Silva of Hudson, NH; a great granddaughter, Madison, of Tyngsboro; his sisters, Rita Bettencourt and her husband, Eve, of Guadalup, Graciosa, Portugal and Lurdes Silva and her husband, Lionel, of Toronto, Canada; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Heliodoro D. Silva who passed away in January of 1975.

ON TUESDAY, HIS FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816.
HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL ST., LOWELL AT 10 A.M..
