LOWELL Jose Brum, 85, of Lowell, passed away after a long illness Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the widower of the late Maria (Lourdes) Brum with whom he celebrated 38 years of marriage before she passed away in 2010.
He was born in the Sao Miguel, Azores in Portugal, on March 7, 1931 and was a son of the late Eugene T. Brum and the late Angelina T. (Perreira) Brum. He was raised in the Azores where he attended the area schools before relocating to the United States as a young adult, settling in Lowell with his family.
Jose was a longtime resident of Heritage Nursing Home and previously resided in the Pawtucketville Section of Lowell for many years. He was a devoted communicant of St. Anthony Church. He worked in the Lowell area shoe factories, and also at Old Mother Hubbard. Jose enjoyed spending time at his home with his family.
Jose is survived by six sisters, Angelina Pacheco, Trinidade Tavares, Maria Pimental, Ophelia Ortiz, Mary Lou Medeiros, and Maria DeJesus, all of Lowell; four brothers, Francisco Brum, Manuel Brum, Joseph Brum, and Virginio Brum, all of Lowell. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, step-children, and step-grandchildren.
Jose was predeceased by his wife, the late Maria (Lourdes) Brum; his parents, the late Eujeneo Brum and the late Aneglina T. (Perreira) Brum; and his siblings, the late Luiz T. Brum, the late Eugenia Diaz, Guilhermina Silva.
ON FRIDAY, JUNE 24, YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS FROM 8:30 UNTIL 11 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL 978-458-6816. HIS FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. ANTHONY CHURCH, 893 CENTRAL STREET, LOWELL AT 12 NOON. A PROCESSION WILL FOLLOW FOR BURIAL AT ST. MARY CEMETERY IN TEWKSBURY.
