Joao M. Mendonca
LOWELL Joao M. Mendonca, 49, of Chelmsford, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at his home.
He was a son of the late Manuel and the late Maria (Ponte) Mendonca, he was born on October 9, 1965, in Terceira, Azores, Portugal. His family moved from Portugal to the United States in 1968, settling in Lowell, where he was raised in the Back Central Street neighborhood and educated throughout the Lowell area.
Joao resided in Lowell most of his life, until more recently residing in Chelmsford. He was a longtime member of the Portuguese American Center, as well as a communicant of St. Anthony Parish in Lowell. He was employed as a maintenance supervisor for 6 years throughout the real estate industry. Joao was a gifted craftsman and an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed amateur wrestling and football, and was recently inducted into the Greater Lowell Vocational High School Wrestling Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his children, Benjamin Mendonca, Shawn Mendonca, Keiana Mendonca and Darlene Mendonca-Drolet all of Lowell; and many other distant and close relatives throughout the United States and Portugal.
