George L. ‘Gramps’ MacDonald
Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather
CHELMSFORD George L. ‘Gramps’ MacDonald, 90, of Chelmsford, died Saturday, June 21, 2014, at UMASS Memorial Health Care Center, after a brief battle with cancer. He had shared his life with his beloved Sandra (Manousos) MacDonald for the past sixty four years, and had celebrated their Fifty Ninth Wedding Anniversary.
A son of the late Peter and the late Josephine (MacNeil) MacDonald, he was born on April 5, 1924, in Lowell, and was educated in the local schools. He served with the United States Army as a Corporal, and was also a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, serving in New Hampshire where he helped build the Kancamagus Highway.
Mr. MacDonald made his home in Chelmsford for many years and was a Master Plumber most of his life. He worked as a Realtor for several years and was a Vice President at Phoenix Property Services in Worcester. Prior to his retirement, he was a facilities specialist for Digital.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he enjoyed playing mini-golf and going out for ice cream with his grandchildren. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America.
In addition to his loving wife, Sandra, he is survived by his son and daughter in law, Peter MacDonald and his wife, Lorraine (Lambert) MacDonald of Sterling; his sister, Florence (MacDonald) Cortez of Lowell; his grandchildren, Lt. Hannah MacDonald, USN, Dr. Jocelyne MacDonald, and Nathaniel MacDonald all of Sterling, Rebecca Trudel and Stephanie Trudel of Westford, and Amy Lambert and Elise Lambert of Amherst, NH; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Nancy MacDonald, and a brother of the late Patricia Costa, the late Jessie Conway, the late Michael A. MacDonald, the late Victor K. MacDonald, the late Albert J. MacDonald, the late John MacDonald, and the late Richard MacDonald.
