LOWELL Charles Long, 59, of Lowell, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Hospice House of Haverhill after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Marie (LeGree) Long, with whom he would have celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary later this month.
Born March 5, 1957, in Greensboro, North Carolina, he was a son of Alice Gardner. As a child, he moved with his family to Boston and was raised and educated in the Boston area. After his high school graduation, he served his country with the United States Air Force for 4 years.
After his discharge, he moved to Florida where he made his home until 1999 when he relocated to Boston, meeting the love of his life, Marie. They eventually settled in Lowell where they have lived for the past fifteen years.
He was an avid sports fan, especially of basketball and football and in particular was a fan of the Boston Celtics and the Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed watching movies, playing the lottery, but more than anything, he loved his wife’s home cooking.
Mr. Long worked in the medical steam boiler industry since 2002 retiring in 2015 due to illness.
Besides his wife, Marie, and his mother, Alice, he is survived by Marie’s children, whom he loved as his own, Lois Grimes-Walters and her husband, Stephen, of Pittsburgh, PA, Michael Moore and his wife, Angela, of Pittsburgh, PA, Hugh Walker and his wife, Tasha, of Pittsburgh, PA; his grandchildren, Catara, Salaya, Syrome, Aiden, Marcus, Elliott and Lil' Tra; his sister, Wilma; his brothers, Vincent, Gary, Bryant; a cousin, Phyllis; and many nieces and nephews.
